HOLISTIC LIVING

The digital age is a fast-paced one. Time is racing by, and everyone is struggling to keep up. The tendency these days is to slap a band-aid on our issues, all in the name of moving forward and ignoring the altogether deeper problem at its root. The longer we go on in this way, however, the more these setbacks pile up upon each other…until one day, it all becomes too much to deal with and we shut down.

So what’s the solution to coping in the twenty first century?

We move to holistic living.

What is Holistic Living?

A holistic approach indicates that an entire system is being addressed, and not just a single component part. This lifestyle therefore focuses on addressing the entirety of the human experience; in simple terms, it looks at the mind, the body, and the soul. Those who try to practice holistic living describe the experience as one in which you look at the big picture, because every part of us is intertwined and connected to a larger whole. Our experiences with our minds influences our experiences with our bodies, while the nurturing of our souls is essential to the wellbeing of our minds. Each human is individual and unique, and one person’s idea of holistic living is not another’s. Holistic living requires introspection, and time, to structure your lifestyle around what best serves you.

With that being said, there are specific categories in your life that you can adjust now in order to pursue a holistic lifestyle. Simply incorporate new habits into your daily routine that allow you to best care for yourself, and you’ll be surprised at how much better you feel.

The Mind

Our minds are one of the most powerful tools at our disposal. A tenet of holistic living is the practice of mindfulness. The idea here is to be present in the now, instead of worrying about the future or the past. Meditation is often recommended as a way to best nourish our minds, to focus on living every day to its fullest. If you don’t already meditate, you can start small; begin with five minutes of meditation before you start your day, or before bed. Increase that span slowly over time, and you’ll soon start to reap the benefits.

Mindfulness also means that you pause in your day-to-day to reflect and experience life. Use all your senses. Open a window, and listen to the birds chirping while you sip your morning tea. Go for a walk and feel the breeze on your skin.

Be present.

The Body

With the convenience of processed foods and pre-packaged drinks, it’s incredibly easy in today’s world to forget that our body requires good, wholesome nutrition to function at its best. Western medication is generally seen as a cure; and haven’t you been told that prevention is better? Holistic living practices encourages us to eat well to prevent unnecessary trips to the hospital. That isn’t to say that conventional medicine doesn’t have its place in the world-it simply means that we should attempt to curate our lives into ones that do not need it very often.

In addition to a generally healthy, wholesome diet of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, we can supplement our eating with superfoods that we know provide long term health benefits. Turmeric, for example, is a spice that has been used for thousands of years in holistic Ayurvedic practice for its range of health benefits. It’s an anti-inflammatory that can reduce the risk of heart disease, improve brain function, and kill off cancer cells. While it can be added to your regular rotation of spices in meals, it can also be taken as a healthy morning tea.

Nature’s Rare simplifies the process by offering sachets of organic turmeric and black pepper in their Turmeric Hot Brew. We promote locally grown superfoods like the bottled King Coconut Water, which is a great low-calorie solution for replenishing electrolytes, or our line of pure Ceylon Cinnamon Hot Brew, which can lower blood sugar, protect from heart disease, and potentially even inhibit the growth of cancerous cells.

All of our ingredients are organic, sustainably sourced and ethically harvested; we strive to become a carbon and water-conscious food manufacturer; and aim to reduce waste and save energy in the production process. In the quest for holistic living, Nature’s Rare ensures that customers can consume their beverages guilt-free, knowing that every care has been taken to protect the bounty of this planet.

The Soul

This aspect of holistic living is more difficult to describe, but it essentially looks at aligning your personal values with your lifestyle. For some, this could mean focusing on their spirituality and their connection with God. For others, it means deepening their bonds with the people they love and pursuing goals that connect them to the wider world. Nourishing the soul looks different for each individual, and only time will help you understand how it can work best for you.
